S8E3: Bring out the Best in You on Your Wedding Day - without Busting Your Budget

You want to look your best on your wedding day, but you don't want to break the bank.

This week, we're dishing with Rissel and getting the details on how to plan your hair and makeup without busting your budget.

Guest: Rissel, Rissel Beauty

This week, we’re dishing about…

  • bringing out the best version of yourself.

  • tips for staying on budget when booking a hair and makeup professional.

  • the questions couples should ask and things they should share with their wedding vendors when discussing their budget.

  • what to consider when looking for a hair and makeup artist for your wedding day.

    … and more!

Meet Rissel!

Rissel has 11 years of catering personalized bridal and event Hair and makeup.

We have a salon Suite located in Annandale, VA, where we offer a salon experience to our clients with blonding services, color corrections, hair treatments, waxing, lash lifting and, of course, bridal consultations.

Small enough to create magic, big enough to fulfill your hair needs. For the the best version of yourself!

Why did you decide to start your own business?

I have always had a passion for makeup but as I started to pique my interest in the bridal world I realized the need for hair as well. I took it upon myself to create a pleasant experience for brides that didn’t have to look further for a makeup artist and hair stylist.

What's the coolest thing about owning your own business?

I have the ability to meet amazing people not only with my peers but also of course with my guests. I set the tone of the day at every bridal event. And I get to help other professionals grow from my experiences. It’s not easy to manage all the business hats but I have lots of support from my fellow colleagues as well as family and friends that have seen it all and helped me to walk this path I chose to walk as a business owner.

Let’s talk budget…

I believe that we are all going through an adjustment due to the economy. However, when planning a wedding sometimes, couples may cut out some services - like hair and makeup - and overlook the importance in their pictures. I believe that an important part of your wedding day is the experience that you may have had with the person who does your hair and makeup last minute. Look around and talk with a few vendors to see what fits your budget, and ensure that you have a connection so that your day can be a pleasant experience.

What should couples consider when choosing a vendor?

When it comes to budgets and choosing a vendor, ask questions about their prices. Do your research for pricing and have an idea of what you would like in terms of style or look. For example, create a Pinterest board you can share with your hair and makeup artist. Be realistic about your expectations for your budget. And, have an open conversation with your hair and makeup artist where you feel comfortable that all your questions and doubts have been answered.

What advice could you offer to engaged couples planning their wedding?

  • Don’t let the small situations that are out of your control ruin your special day. Things will happen, but you have to understand that mostly no one will ever know of your guest.

  • As a professional, I try my best to go above and beyond, but I also understand that I can also do so much.

  • Communicate your expectations but also understand that we do everything we can for you. And by communicating properly we shall come to an agreement. This day is one day and you have a lifetime ahead so make the best out of it.

What does your future wedding look like?

Honestly, I love taking part in other’s special events and I have so many ideas of what my wedding looks like, but I’m a very simple person. I know the priorities I have like having a wedding planner/coordinator, and of course, for my hair and makeup, I have a few artists in mind. I will not be doing it myself.

Business Insight

What challenges have you had to overcome as a business owner?

Overthinking. Someone once told me that if I’m looking for perfection I will always be unhappy with my results. As long as 75% to 80% was achieved you should be happy you made it that far because when trying to reach a goal we run into many issues and obstacles but as long as we have the will to do it.
