YOUR BUSINESS

Banner Day Films

How long have you been in business?

3.5 years

What areas do you serve?

Washington-Baltimore area

Why did you decide to start your own business?

Originally because I wanted to make sure couples got great video of their weddings, then pivoted to marketing videos when I realized weddings weren't for me and realized that I really loved working with nonprofits and people doing great things to help them tell their stories.

What's the coolest thing about owning your own business?

Getting to meet and work with new, wonderful people all the time and introducing them to other people through video.

What is a topic that you feel you could offer a unique perspective in — either to engaged couples or wedding professionals/entrepreneurs?

Using video to market your business

  • Who is the target of this specific topic ?

    • Wedding Professionals

    • General Entrepreneurs

What insight would you like to offer about this topic?

Why you need video in your marketing toolbox Ideas for types of videos to create for marketing Venues for your marketing video Hiring & Working with a professional videographer

What advice could you offer to someone starting a business like yours?

Don't undervalue your work. A lot of people in creative fields seem to be afraid to charge what they're worth. Just because you enjoy what do you, that doesn't make it worth any less.

YOUR WEDDING

What, if anything, would you change about your wedding?

I wish I had paid attention to hiring a videographer. I didn't want one at the time (I wasn't in video yet and didn't realize how important it would be to me later), so I let my mom choose someone and I hate our wedding video.

How did you choose your wedding vendors?

It was 17 years ago, but I think we mostly used The Knot and went to a couple wedding expos.

What advice could you offer to engaged couples planning their wedding - as both a wedding professional and a married human?

Don't overlook getting a videographer! And don't skimp on your budget for that. It usually costs at least as much as your photographer for the same level of expertise.

What was the most important decision you made about your wedding?

To marry my husband! Everything else was nowhere near a big a deal as I thought it was at the time!

Have something else to share? A funny story? Something crazy that happened? Let's Dish!

My dress strap snapped while I was swing dancing at the reception. Luckily, my mother-in-law had safety pins!
