S4E9: May the Force be with You | An Elegant Star Wars Wedding
An elegant Star Wars wedding might seem hard to pull off; now, imagine incorporating Filipino wedding traditions…
And, it came together PERFECTLY!
When Chad took Johanna to Comicon for their first date, she knew what she was in for — and she was all in. And when their guests received their save the dates, they knew they were in for a real treat.
And, you won't believe what they did for their first dance! Truly a first!
Chad & Johanna’s Wedding
How did you two meet?
We met online. Our first date was at a comic book convention.
What was the first thing you noticed about your partner?
The fact that she wasn’t running away when she saw where our date was at.
Tell us about the proposal!
We took a trip to NYC and I proposed by the Brooklyn Bridge. It’s a much longer and interesting story that took some planning. This would be a good subject for a podcast.
Wedding Date:
April 20, 2019

National Union Building
Approx. number of guests:
75
What were your top 5 favorite moments from your wedding?
The first dance

The food
What, if anything, would you change about the wedding planning process?
We would have gotten a wedding planner sooner than we did.
What, if anything, would you change about your wedding day?
To take more time to enjoy the moment.
Did you participate in any family, cultural, or religious traditions in your wedding?
We participated in the veil and cord and the 13 coins from the Filipino traditions.
What was the planning process like? Did you run into any obstacles? How did you overcome them?
I started out planning and researching the big decision items like the venue, caterer, and DJ.
The first big obstacle was finding a venue that would allow dogs. We contacted about a dozen potential venues.
I would say that once we got to the part where we felt overwhelmed that is when we hired a planner.
What was the most important decision you made about your wedding?
The most important decision was the venue. That decision drove our other decisions we made.
What is your favorite thing about your significant other? And, if there *is* a least fave thing, feel free to share that, too :)
My favorite thing about Johanna is her tender heart and the way she cares about everyone. My least favorite thing is that she has the world’s worst memory.
What’s the best thing that’s happened in your lives since getting married?
Our lives didn’t really change after getting married. I would say gaining a family here in the area is the best thing since my family is halfway across the country.
What is the most surprising difference between being married vs living together?
We lived together while we were engaged so not much has changed.
