Spreading Joy — with puppies!

Couples invite adoptable puppies to their wedding in lieu of flowers

To quote Sara's neighbor, even if you're not a dog person, EVERYONE is a puppy person! Couples invite adoptable puppies to their wedding in lieu of flowers. Holy cuteness, Batman!

YOUR BUSINESS

Joy works for The Pet Gal

How long have you been in business?

10 years, 3 years doing weddings

What areas do you serve?

All of Austin, Tx will travel anywhere for a wedding

Why did you decide to start your own business?

She’s in charge of The Wedding Pet Attendant part of the business. I do know the owner (Susan) was tired of corporate America and used her love of pets to start a pet sitting business. It was later after she established the pet sitting services she added the Wedding Pet Attendant services.

All the fun stuff!

Do you have a favorite story to share?

We did a wedding back in December at Florence at Vineyards in Austin, Tx. Instead of flowers the couple choose to have rescue puppies from Austin Pets Alive! It was the cutest! After some fun photos the puppies hung around cocktail hour to get some love and possibly be adopted. I was there for the couples dog Ruth. She was their 10th foster from Austin Pets Alive and their 1st foster fail. I could completely understand why, she is a complete sweetheart. She gives the best hugs!

What's the craziest thing you've seen happen at a wedding?

The craziest thing would have to be everyone being rushed inside the reception hall from cocktail hour because there was an active shooter on the property. It was on the other side of the property but for safety they locked us in the reception hall until the threat was over. The venue did an exceptional job at keeping everyone and themselves calm. I don’t even think the guests knew what was going on.

Any funny stories to share?

We suggest that after walking down the aisle, the pup goes for a walk, potty break, or water break while the couple continues their nuptials. I had one wedding where they kept the dog at the altar with the groom's men. He started to butt scoot during the ceremony. Everyone started to laugh. Dogs are so unpredictable at times!

What advice could you offer to engaged couples planning their wedding - as both a wedding professional and a married human?

If you plan on having your fur children there hire a profession and let your guests celebrate you and your day!
