How long have you been in business?

18 years

What areas do you serve?

All of Michigan, but mostly southeast Michigan.

Why did you decide to start your own business?

I was in a hip-hop group in high school and we got asked to DJ a wedding. I fell in love instantly with packing the dance floor!

What's the coolest thing about owning your own business?

Creative control. Branding is everything and I strive to have nice, clean branding. I worked for other DJ's early on and noticed some things that looked outdated. I don’t want my brand to seem that way. Now it's all up to me and I love it!

What’s one of the coolest things about working with you?

Booking multiple services with one vendor.  We offer DJ/ PHOTO BOOTH/ PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY.

Clients usually get so excited that we offer a one-stop shop solution for so many needs. They save money and we make more money. It's a win-win

Your Business

Do you have a favorite story to share?

Elvis impersonators officiated the ceremony and then performed the first dance song!

A groom flew a helicopter and landed 10 feet from the ceremony 5 min before it started. Talk about a grand entrance!

What challenges have you had to overcome?

Covid rescheduled events by far have been the most challenging and hard to navigate situations.

What advice could you offer to someone starting a business like yours?

Branding is huge! High-quality website and social media presence is a must!

What's the craziest thing you've seen happen at a wedding or large event?

I've done a zombie/ killer clown wedding where all the guests wore costumes.

Any funny stories to share?!

A groom got a DUI in the parking lot for doing donuts instead of dancing!

Your Daily Life

What is daily life like in your household?

I have three kids; Two daughters Aniston, age 4, & Adley, age 2, & my Son Harlan, age 9 months! (He's like a little man! )

My amazing wife Lindsay (who I met DJing of course) is a stay-at-home and is my rock and biggest supporter.

Are there any challenges or obstacles that you've had to overcome?

I lost my older brother to drug and alcohol addiction on Dec 18th of 2019. He was 40 years young. His name is Aaron Cox. He was only 2.5 years older so we were very close growing up.  That has definitely been the biggest hardship of my life so far.

We told him we were pregnant with our third child before he passed but never got to reveal to him that it was a boy. We discovered we were having a boy on New Years Day two weeks after Aaron’s death.

We named our son Harlan Aaron Cox in honor of my big brother.

What advice would you offer to other couples in a similar situation?

Keep your head up. Stay strong. This to shall pass. Everything happens for a reason and music will help you through it.

Your Wedding

What, if anything, would you change about your wedding?

It's funny we didn't make a song list or anything! We just booked another local Dj and he did great we danced all night long but looking back I kind of wish I would submitted a song list. Lol

Plus Tupperware to bring home leftovers from all the delicious catered food. I remember wishing I could eat leftovers the next day. Lol

How did you choose your wedding vendors?

We knew a lot of people in the industry and kept things simple cause we know firsthand how people can go overboard. We weren't caught up in the hype cause I'm at a wedding every weekend anyways! lol

What advice could you offer to engaged couples planning their wedding - as both a wedding professional and a married human?

Research means everything! Entertainment is such a big part of making or breaking your wedding. So many people spend weeks worrying about chair covers and don't care what kind of Dj they get.

What was the most important decision you made about your wedding?

Guests count. We chose a smaller venue in purpose to force us to keep the guest list very low and only the most important people were there. It helped us save money and we just blamed it on venue size.

Have something else to share? A funny story? Something crazy that happened? Let's Dish!

My wife and I were on MTV Teen Mom. Like an actual episode. Lol We went to a meet and greet and they used us in the episode.
