S5E4: The Perfect Backyard Wedding in LA | Married Couple
We both think we really lucked out by having a pandemic wedding.
Neither of us had any interest in planning and our parents both had a lot of requests. It was gearing up to be a nightmare.
Then the pandemic hit and our parents were suddenly more concerned about us getting married than planning a big multicultural extravaganza.
History
How did you two meet?
In a drawing class
What was the first thing you noticed about your partner?
His sense of humor. We were buddies in the class.
Tell us about the proposal!
He had planned to propose on a lovely beach in February that we visited on a day trip to Orange County, but there were too many people around for his tastes. He held off and instead proposed the next morning at home. It was very low key and surprising!

What, if anything, would you change about the wedding planning process?
We both think we really lucked out by having a pandemic wedding. Neither of us had any interest in planning and our parents both had a lot of requests. It was gearing up to be a nightmare. Then the pandemic hit and our parents were suddenly more concerned about us getting married than planning a big multicultural extravaganza.
What, if anything, would you change about your wedding day?
Nothing! It was actually fun and went by so fast, just like everyone says.
Did you participate in any family, cultural, or religious traditions into your wedding?
We did a small puja and his parents gave me a jewelry set. Everything else was pretty western style.
What was the planning process like? Did you run into any obstacles? How did you overcome them?
Basically, it was gearing up to be super stressful until the pandemic derailed our plans. We were going to do 2 ceremonies and receptions, one in MI and one in CA. My parents wanted to invite everyone they'd ever met. My mom was trying to plan an Indian wedding somehow. It was not great.
What is your favorite thing about your significant other? And, if there *is* a least fave thing, feel free to share that. For example, Sara's husband would love it if she stopped burning everything she puts in the toaster oven, but he loves her anyway LOL
I have a lot of favorite things, but one standout is how well he can read me and my emotions. Also, he hates when I share this, but he is a big softy.
My least fave thing is how he leaves his shoes right in the middle of the room for me to trip over.
Married Life
What’s the best thing that’s happened in your lives since getting married?
This has been a weird first year of marriage because of the pandemic, but I think the best thing is how much we've supported each other. We've each had our panini freakout moments where we've really needed the other person's support. Also, we're not sick of each other yet!
Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
We were both on the same page about getting a prenup and I feel strongly pro about it especially for entrepreneurs.
